HEAD acoustics succeeded in the standardization of the newly developed artificial ear with human-like ear canal (HEC) in ITU-T. The new artificial ear is now standardized as Type 4.4 artificial ear in Recommendation ITU-T P.57. The HEAD acoustics HEC artificial ear not just fulfills the Type 4.4 artificial ear requirements, even more it is the first ITU-T standardized artificial ear meeting the low-noise requirements for artificial ears as defined in the new chapter 7 of Recommendation P.57.
With this new artificial ear HEAD acoustics provides a unique ear simulator with human-like ear canal, a human-like impedance simulation combined with a low-noise microphone implementation whose noise floor is below the human threshold of hearing. The HEAD acoustics head and torso simulator HMS II.3 LN HEC equipped with this new ear simulator is ideally suited for all types of headphone, headset and hearable measurements. This includes all active noise cancellation (ANC) implementations where the noise floor of the test equipment is of critical importance. In addition, this ear is equally well suited for all types of handset and hands-free measurements.
