The reception of audio signals from radio broadcasts under dynamic conditions may be disturbed in various ways as often experienced in driving situations. Noises and “pops”, for example are audible and annoying. These disturbances are caused by bad radio reception conditions such as loss of transmission energy. The stand-alone analysis software TUNE allows automatical and reproducible evaluation of radio broadcast impairment effects to the audio signal. The evaluation is conducted in a lab based on auditory tests. The analyzer software provides various sound environment scenarios for the evaluation (for example different car cabins).

The hearing-adequate analytical model of TUNE is capable to analyze the processed audio output of receivers while considering human perception of typical disturbances. Thus, the analysis software provides results with high correlation.

Highlights

  • TUNE evaluates the effects of radio broadcast impairments to the audio signal.
  • The analysis software enables manufacturer of car radios to evaluate the audio signals in a lab.
  • TUNE stands out through its reproducible and instrumental method.

Applications

  • Instrumental and reproducible evaluation of the effects of radio broadcast impairments to the audio signal in vehicles

Features

  • TUNE allows instrumental comparison of the performance of different receivers.
  • The analysis software detects typical signal impairments and gives an overview of their occurrence over time.
  • TUNE includes music samples and English test sentences (simulated newscaster) according to recommendation ITU-T P.501.
  • The software provides results e.g. as overall Mean Opinion Score (MOS) values, as easy-to-read Quality Pie charts.
  • TUNE is based on auditory tests with more than 2,000 individual quality ratings of license-free speech and music samples in realistic environments.
  • For input of time signals TUNE supports the file formats .dat, .wav, and .hdf.
  • TUNE generates result reports to .doc, .pdf and .rtf files.
